Assuming neolithic people had roughly the same intelligence that we do, why would anyone find it exceptional or noteworthy that, when departing on a voyage of uncertain duration, they would take food along?
Not that they would take food along, but that they developed the technology to keep it sufficiently dry to be usable. Pelagic conditions are rough in the best of times, but on a catamaran deck a foot above the water, well, you and all your stuff will get wet. From this piece, it looks like they had this figured out sufficiently that they could carry it as cargo from the Philippines to Guam on some sort of regular basis, over the open ocean. Even thinking about that makes me seasick.
