I refuse to organ donor also.
About 25 years ago my niece contracted meningitis while in college at Texas A & M. They rushed her to ER and my sister and brother in law rushed there from Houston. Sis called me at around 2 am, crying. She told me they wanted to harvest her organs. Niece was not coherent at that point. Told my sister to wait and see, don’t do it yet. A couple hours later, my niece “woke up” and was released later that day. She is now a successful business executive with husband and 2 kids in college.
I have preached heavily to family and friends not to allow this on the driver’s license, as this takes precedent over anyone else saying no.
Did not know what a lucrative business this is for hospitals. Thanks for the article.
When I was renewing my drivers license the woman behind the counter put a guilt trip on me for not checking the organ donor box. It was very annoying, my license picture didn’t turn out well.
What a scary story! Close call. Yes, no one should ever check to be an organ donor, I’ve read many horror tales.
Re Donor:
Thank goodness you were there in their time of extreme vulnerability.
Great work!
