Elon’s a smart guy. A well-funded third party MIGHT be a useful vehicle for a single candidate who wants to work around the system or at a single state level. as a productive force for Congress? We may need a "MAGA" party. We have Mitt Romneys and Paul Ryans in the GOP.
It wouldn't be a bad thing if a new party would actually emerge. Many of us are only voting red because of Trump.

Ballot placement alone makes it impractical to start a nationwide party from scratch. When the takeover of the Republican Party is complete, we can change the name to MAGA, if we like.
Imagine a see-saw on a fulcrum. In 2017, Trump was on one side, and a bunch of RINOs on the other side, and the see-saw stays on the RINO side, even though Trump has the largest position.
You stick to the plan. First, Paul Ryan goes, and Flake, and Romney, and Amash, and Kinzinger, and Liz Cheney, and Toomey. Next will be Cornyn and Tillis. It takes time, especially with the Senate. There will also be no phonies in the mix. There would be those with a new party, too.
The fact that there is a Lincoln Project that endorsed HARRIS against Trump, tells me that we are close to chasing enough of Trust Fund babies that the Trump can move the other side of the see-saw at will.
When the hippies and commies took over the Dem Party in the '60s, the Sam Erwins, Scoop Jackson, Fred Harris, Dale Bumpers had no idea what was happening. Jimmy Carter got where he did by playing both sides, as Bill Clinton would do later.
Perot set up a third party, but it wasn't designed to outlast him, and he was more anti-Bush than truly able to lead a new movement. Trump is building something that can outlast him. Besides J.D. Vance, Nikki Haley and RFK Jr. were retooled to fit MAGA, and attract old school Democrats who have been homeless for a long time.
We call liberal Republicans "RINOs", but that is only because of US redefining Republican since Goldwater/Reagan. It wasn't so long ago that men like Weicker, Nelson Rockefeller, John Warner, Bob Packwood, Ted Stevens, Chuck Percy, Jacob Javits were all liberal Republicans in good standing, many with leadership roles.
The attrition has to move, as MAGA members join Trump on the see-saw, and then the OTHER side will not be able to move MAGA. It just doesn't seem that way until you get to the majority.
