For what it’s worth, I go to the gym and eventually began some weight training with the low end barbells. The action literally changed my life. I did not get strong but I definitely got stronger.
It does not. I stick to the machines. Less chance of injury. BTDT

You can do both!
I’ll be 65 in 3 mo’s. Exercised most all of my life. Not exceptional. 5’10”. 183.2 lbs at the gym yesterday.(lost 1 lb pissed my wife off). Not trying to lose weight. She is. Wow! She’s been dedicated. 11 1/2 hours of pilates last week. Plus 2 hours of barre. Plus 4 hours of gym on none Pilates day. Plus walking at lunch for an hour. She’s at a “plateau”. I tried to tell her, don’t worry about it. Her trainer says don’t worry about it....she worries about it. Anyway. Her body is changing even if she isn’t satisfied. BTW. She’s 66!
And gym is something we do together. I’m not going to Pilates. Too many women and I don’t need the attention!(I’m kidding).
