Russians advance slower than a SNAIL with 50k pinned down as Putin’s summer offensive mired in Ukraine’s ‘dronegrinder’

THE Russian invasion of Ukraine has been advancing at an incredibly slow pace - with Kyiv's "dronegrinder" warfare miring Putin's summer offensive.

The rate at which Moscow is capturing land has been dubbed "slower than a snail" - all while the human cost of Russian casualties is sky high.

After 448 days of fighting inside Chasiv Yar in Donetsk Oblast, the Russians reportedly only managed to take control of 50 per cent of the city.

Which means the troops, on average, are only able to take 0.00629 square miles of land per day - which is a painfully low conversion rate.

Even snails, which have a speed of 0.03 miles per hour, can cover more land than what the Russians have gained in the region.

A note about a statement in my previous link.

“The country has burned through roughly half of its $106 billion liquid sovereign-wealth fund, which is used to pay troops’ salaries and new recruits bonuses, experts said.”

The half they have drained was gold and currency. What is left is stock securities held by oligarchs at inflated prices. They can’t sell them at those inflated prices and if the sell them at lower prices the value of the sovereign wealth fund takes a double hit.

BTW, that wealth fund provides for pensions but Putin had the solution.

Raise the retirement age to 65. After all, the average life expectancy of the Russian male is only 64!

Facts boyh sides agree with.

Russia has lost hundreds of thousands since 2022 with no significant gains over the 20% they held in 2022.

Russia has lost hundreds of $billions since 2022 with no significant gains over the 20% they held in 2022.

Russia could be forced to end the war in Ukraine because it will run out of money to pay its troops, according to experts at the DC-based Institute for the Study of War.

Uh huh. I've been hearing stuff like this for 3 years. Nothing remotely like it has happened. Lemme know when it DOES happen. Don't keep telling me it will happen. I've heard it too many times to believe it anymore.

The country has burned through roughly half of its $106 billion liquid sovereign-wealth fund, which is used to pay troops’ salaries and new recruits bonuses, experts said.

Yes but it still has half and Russia has an incredibly low national debt unlike all Western countries. We are currently at 130% of GDP. We're in much worse financial shape than they are.

Moscow can likely only afford another 12 to 16 months of fighting at its current pace, with about 30, 000 to 45,000 Russian troops killed or injured in Ukraine each month since its 2022 invasion began, ISW’s Russia team lead George Barros told The Post.

I find those numbers laughable. Russia has a massive artillery advantage and has the advantage in air power. Lots of indications are it is Ukraine that has taken worse casualties than Russia....which you'd expect from the side that is heavily outgunned like they are.

Though Russia has other areas from which they can pull funding for its war aside from its dwindling sovereign wealth fund, it is the easiest place to find quick cash to finance the conflict, Barros said. Plus, “it would be a massive embarrassment” if Moscow depletes “this nest egg that they built for two decades,” possibly risking Russia’s domestic support for Putin and his war.

It would be more embarrassing by far for them to lose. They have a higher pain threshold than we do just as we would have a higher threshold for pain than they would if we were fighting in Mexico and they were supporting the other side. For the West it would be nice if Ukraine were to win. Russia views it as existential to win.

Moscow is currently suffering upwards of 1,200 casualties per day, a rate that began to increase late last year “as Russian forces made gradual, creeping advances in eastern Ukraine,” according to the ISW report.

I've already outlined that I don't buy these casualty figures at all. The BBC tried to pin down the casualty numbers for Russia using a wide variety of sources and could not conclude they suffered more than about 100,000 dead. Ukraine has suffered far far worse than that.

Meanwhile, Ukraine — which relies on modern, live-preserving military technology instead of Russia’s soviet-era systems — has a loss rate of roughly one casualty per four Russian losses.

Yeah propaganda, lies and BS. Laughable BS actually. Ukraine has lost about half a million. Some estimates are as high as 600,000. Millions and millions have poured into Western Europe and are not available to pour into the meat grinder.

Russia has half its sovereign wealth fund left as well as a gigantic store of natural resources it could sell/mortgage if necessary. Again, their national debt is vastly lower than that of Western countries. It is we who will run out of money first....especially since we're sick of it already and want to pull out. What happens half a world away is not that important to us. Ukraine is right next door to them. The millions of Russians who live in the Donbas are their kin and that land is historically part of Russia. Its far more important to them. They'll keep fighting far longer than we will.

I read the article by Caitlin Doornbos posted by the Gaytor. Not ONE mention of Ukrainian casualties.

The zeepers drink deep of the Western misinformation.

According to Western Media, it appears as though the Ukrainians move from victory to victory, without a single casualty.

Not only the wealth fund, their whole market valuation takes a hit.

A BIG credit could lead devastation of their economy.

“Just noting that you didn’t provide a reliable source for your post.”

You must be daft. I only ask where you got that 1000 soldiers lost per day by the Russians.

One does not need to cite a source for a question. You don’t know that?
