Is the world better off with a defanged Iran? You betcha.

But that’s not the argument here. Everyone would agree that the president has the right to response with force to immediate threats. But that’s not the case here. There was no immediate threat from Iran.

The Constitution gives Congress the exclusive power to declare war. So, yeah. Massie has a point.

Ah, but it’s not so cut and dry. Was this attack an act or war, or was it something less? It’s a debate worth having.

Trump didn’t even do that

So IYO Iran, who has repeatedly avowed Death to America and has targeted Americans in the past, would not be an existential threat as a nuclear power? Trump thought they would be and he acted to remove that threat. That belief justified his actions under Article 2. There is nothing that says we have to let Iran attack us w/a nuclear weapon before we can act.
