I think they'd be the first to turn that legal gun owner over to the invading army.
I have not ever paid attention to an unconstitutional law. The business of lawfare is a tried and true trend used by those who do not wish to follow the constitution.
That “neighbor” would be the one to turn you in to the new over lords.
"Dear, come look at this. The neighbors house has burned to the ground. I wonder what happened."
Assault rifle, high-powered rifle, and high-capacity magazines are libspeak (communist) terms meant to stoke fear or sympathy, whichever is called for.
(See also gender-affirming care, body positivity, affirmative action, etc.)
Doesn’t federal law outlaw marijuana, and the harboring of illegal border-crossers, too?
Whatever scares someone.
The trouble is purchasing it out of state.
You have to be a resident of the state you purchase it in.
Semi auto rifles have been around since 1903, yet almost no mass killings began, except for criminal gang wars, until the democrats cast their evil eye on them in 1984.
No wonder that in 1941, just days before the Pearl Harbor attack, Congress reaffirmed Second Amendment rights and prohibited gun registration. In 1968, bills to register guns were debated, with opponents recalling the Nazi experience and supporters denying that the Nazis ever used registration records to confiscate guns. The bills were defeated, as every such proposal has been ever since, including recent “universal background check” bills.
The lies we have been told over the years...
1962 We ONLY want to register handguns. Rifles will not be affected!
1964, We ONLY want to register ALL firearms, not ban them.
1968 We ONLY want to register all guns, and ban the import of foreign Saturday Night Specials, and 5-shot bolt action army surplus rifles! (they got the ban).
1970, We ONLY want to ban small American handguns. Rifles will not be affected!
1976 We ONLY want to ban ALL handguns! Rifles will not be affected!
1981, Actress Lee Grant on Good Morning America (ABC) screams...”THE NRA IS A RIFLE ORGANIZATION! THEY SHOULD GIVE UP THEIR HANDGUNS AND THEY CAN KEEP THEIR RIFLES!”
1984, they came for the rifles.
1994..When they thought they had banned “As-s-s-ault rifles they did not shut off the lights and go home. they immediately went after their next target, .50 cal single shot rifles “THAT CAN TAKE DOWN AN AIRPLANE!”
They will never be satisfied till they have an unarmed population.
Here is a nice Remington from 1906. Legal to buy then with no paper work, no back ground check, no waiting period, even through the mail.

So in essence a Rhode Island resident is deprived of their right to legally obtain a firearm in the United States whose possession is protected by the second amendment and legal in RI. That would be the Constitutional issue.
“What’s an assault weapon?”
You have a better chance of getting an answer to “What is a woman?”
***.. firearms that were once banned nationwide and are now largely the weapon of choice... ***
Remember the Assault rifle ban?
It banned rifles by name.
It declared flash suppressors and bayonet lugs bad.(How many people died from bayonets since 1900?)
Folding stocks were bad
Extended magazines bad.
So the manufacturers changed the name of the rifles to “Target Rifle”
Removed the flash suppressor and bayonet lug.
Made the folding stock solid.
Added a 10 round magazine.
And the rifles were still for sale all through the ban.
Meanwhile there were still millions of high cap magazines in public hands.
If you knew where to look you could still buy a 30 rd magazine stamped “FOR POLICE USE ONLY”.
assault /ə-sôlt′/
1. A violent physical attack, as with blows.
2. A strong or cutting verbal attack.
So....
1. Your hands. fists, feet, and head are assault weapons.
2. Any part of your body used to create speech (lips, tongue, larynx...) are assault weapons.
Good enough for Miss America 1962 to shoot it is good for us today.

“In late 1963, photographer Arthur Rickerby captured photos of Maria Fletcher, Miss America 1962, at a Colt demonstration of their new AR-15 rifle. The photos, which appeared in TIME Magazine, included a Colt representative showing Fletcher how to shoot the AR-15. At the time, the AR-15 was a cutting-edge rifle, and Fletcher’s participation highlighted American manufacturing, a cause she promoted during her reign.”
“I have one next door, moved to west michigan from chicago because crime, cost of living, housing costs, and they(husband and wife) declare Trump to be a criminal dictater.“

These kind of people are like locusts, first they destroy the place where they live, strip it of any value and decency whatsoever, then they move somewhere else and repeat the process, having learned absolutely nothing from their prior mistake. These are similar to the New York morons who destroyed New York City, and then moved to New Jersey, bringing with them their nonsensical, blissninny, political ideas, and ruined that state. My aunt and uncle were two of those types. That’s why I left the People’s Republic of New Jersey, and now reside in Texas, FA.
Lewis and Clark brought Girandoni repeating rifles on their expedition.
https://warfarehistorynetwork.com/article/lewis-and-clarks-girandoni-air-rifle/
Their favorite term is “detachable ammunition feeding device” which, indeed, means any firearm that accepts magazines.
I’m sure they have some sort of definition ...
But in their minds, an “assault weapon” is any weapon not owned by the government.
I read of Lewis and Clark using one on their expedition west. Almost hit a woman in St Louis when it misfired.
Anything the left declares, apparently. Personally I consider all firearms to be assault guns. Because it would be stupid if they weren’t. That’s kind of the point of firearms.
