I find that mixed race people almost always identify with the “darker”half whatever that may be, even if they look white themselves.
A boy who was friends with my son in high school was the child of a light skinned black man and a blonde Scandinavian woman. He had hazel eyes, sharp
European facial features, dirty blond hair, and skin as light as a Greek or Sicilian. Modest frizziness to his hair when it was grown out was the only clue to his black ancestry. It would have been no problem to pass himself off as entirely white if he had wanted.
But he completely embraced black culture, growing his hair into an Afro and affecting a black accent and dialect with plenty of N-words. I always wondered how he would fare when he left his sheltered white suburban environment and started dropping N-bombs around some real black brothas from the hood.
