Used to be only property owners and men could vote. It kept frivolous, self-centered and ignorant people from affecting our politics. The idea being that if a person was not responsible and wise they would not own property or hold it for long.

If you have to pay taxes on property, you don’t “own” it.

One of my kids was railing on that idea last night at dinner - property owners and men only like it used to be. Funny thing is, the kid is a 27-year old female! (She also thought there should be a maximum voting age. “Well, there’s a minimum age! Why not a maximum age for the old people that only get their news from CNN and the networks and can’t think for themselves anymore?”

Something men with property are incapable of being.
