I didn’t know that. Never had one. No wonder they revved so high.
Bullitt Mustang Found
The 1968 Ford Mustang GT Fastback driven by Steve McQueen in the film "Bullitt" was found in a junkyard in Mexico after being missing for decades.
The car, one of two used in the film, was discovered in a scrapyard in Baja California Sur by Hugo Sanchez, who initially intended to restore it as a replica of the "Eleanor" car from "Gone in 60 Seconds". However, upon checking the vehicle identification number (VIN), it was confirmed to be the authentic Bullitt Mustang.
The car had been stripped of its drivetrain and painted in a different color, but it retained features such as reinforced shock towers and a 9-inch rear end, which were modifications made for the film's action sequences.
Ford historian Kevin Marti authenticated the car, confirming its original VIN and its connection to the film.
The car was later restored and displayed at the Detroit Auto Show in 2018.
beautiful car. IIRC, 64 is a misnomer. The Mustang was not in official production until 65, so most call the pre-production run it’s as 64 1/2.
my uncle had new ‘66( or ‘67 I think). He promised he’d sell it to me. never did.
I’m almost over that resentment....
