Harrowing footage captured the moment California police shot a New York Post photographer in the head with a rubber bullet during Los Angeles’ violent protest Sunday evening.

Toby Canham, who was on assignment for The Post and standing just off the 101 Freeway at an elevated level, was filming video of the chaos between cops and rioters when a California Highway Patrol (CHP) officer suddenly turned his weapon toward him and fired from about 100 yards away.

Canham, 59, who was wearing his press pass, was struck in the forehead and quickly fell to the ground, according to the disturbing footage he captured.

“F–k, f–k, I just got shot in the head!” the dad of two can be heard screaming from behind the camera.

The eye was first thing I thought...everybody else within a 2 mile radius is more than likely wearing riot gear except this knucklehead.

On the bright side, looks like the trooper has been putting in his range time. 😁

The officers are sheltering under the overpass to keep from getting hit in the head with a rock.

Looks like a number of them are aiming in his general direction.

Not buying the ‘suddenly’ !

Are press passes visible from 100 yards away?

No. In addition you are lucky you can hit a person, let alone any particular part of a person, at 100 yards with a rubber bullet.

The maximum range of rubber bullets is about 100 yards.

"...A 100 yard shot and hit was luck or unlucky..."

Absolutely, at 100 yds a rubber bullet is on a random path.

Oh no! The guy is in the middle of a riot/melee by illegal enemy combatants who ill not obey lawful orders and he gets hit by a rubber bullet, without reading the article let me guess. The police obviously targeted him a member of the press for documenting their abuse of mostly peaceful illegal alien rioters who who looting, destroying property and committing arson while oh yea attacking the police. His proof? Isn’t it obvious in the midst of all this mayhem they took deliberate aim to shoot poor victim him in the head.

LEOs should stop using rubber bullets. Many of the Protesters are also Climate Change activists also and petroleum is used in the manufacturing of rubber bullets. Copper jacketed lead is much more Climate friendly.

“…dad of two…”

What does this add to article?

It humanizes him to let everyone know he's a lib.

If he was a conservative they wouldn't have mentioned it.

I can’t understand why he was struck with a projectile at a “peaceful” demonstration. Makes no sense.

"I don't deserve this... to die like this. I was building a house."

You are still alive because you got hit in the head by a piece of rubber, Mr. Photojournalist (and 59 year old dad of two). So much reality, so little understanding of it.

First, good shot.
Second: “He then saw someone to his left throw a water bottle filled with a liquid at authorities and then retreat,” And he doesn’t know why he was shot? Cop probably saw where the area was that the bottle was thrown from and figured it was this guy since he was the only one there.

He then saw someone to his left throw a water bottle filled with a liquid at authorities and then retreat, which led him to start recording with his camera 20 seconds before he was struck.

Why didn't this British (foreigner) NY Post "reporter" start recording the rioter who threw that object at the police???

A lot of photojournalists down there hunting that Pulitzer-winning Kent Stae shot. Not surprising one of them got beaned.

Notice that this foreign reporter did not turn his video recorder on the perp who threw this debris. His mindset was to only record LE.
