My dad worked in fields in Italy as a boy. He would get water from a small spring on a hummock. Many years after he came to America, the hummock slumped one day and exposed an ancient fountain that locals thought was a spring. Much of an ancient village has been excavated. There is a museum at the site displaying many items. We visited when dad was in his 80’s and he filled his water bottle from the fountain.

Roman theater marquee said the features were Love Is In the Air with Ronald Reagan (his first credited film role) and You Only Live Once with Henry Fonda (both 1937).

Hostess Twinkies sold at the concession stand were still not stale.

35 B.C. would be when Octavian was campaigning in the area, trying to get a little military glory for propaganda purposes. About the same time Mark Antony was dealing with the Parthians, a more formidable enemy than the Illyrian tribes.
