Don’t make too much about anything you hear about Russia/Iran being on the “outs.” They are pretty much married to each other and have been since well before WW II. They do a huge amount of mutual bizness via the north/south railroad that they share, that runs from the Gulf to the Caspian. It was the back door we used during WW II to supply Russia with hardware and it still is a major Russian supply line to the interior.

No, I'm not saying that. First off, Tulsi's testimony was in March, and a lot has changed since then. Second, if you look at what she said then, her point about uranium enrichment is consistent with what I wrote above.— JD Vance (@JDVance) June 17, 2025
It looks like Bibi and Trump pretty much have the Mullers under control. But even if the Iranians swear off processing uranium first thing in the morning there will a still be a huge problem remaining. Depending on who you believe there is somewhere around 300 pounds of U235 enriched to one degree or another laying around various ratholes in Persia.
It must not be allowed to drift into a black market or otherwise disperse. A brick of the stuff, along with a case of dynamite, hidden in a suitcase could destroy the usefulness of Manhattan, or any other big town, for a decade or more.
While everybody agrees we don’t want US troops on the ground, at least fighting, anywhere in Iran. But Pete had best be training up a group that can track down and secure any and all fissile material floating around the place. The Russians will help since they are downwind. Maybe Israel can get it done but I doubt they have the horsepower to do the roundup by themselves.
Besides security troopers, the group needs Radcon guys, shielded storage equipment, sniffers, and all the rest that our own Nukes would use. I don’t see us, US, avoiding a foray into Iran since I don’t want to see Iranian U235 showing up in the Hudson River.
Ideally, I could see us rounding up all the stuff and bringing it back here for re-processing into something useful. We can do that but Trump has to get someone on it.
