I saw them in Denver, center stage, about row 9. A great show.
:-)
The song “Mr. Blue Sky” by Electric Light Orchestra was featured in the Doctor Who episode “Love & Monsters”, which aired as the tenth episode of the second series in 2006. The episode follows Elton Pope, an ordinary man fascinated by the Doctor, as he joins a group of enthusiasts investigating the Time Lord. It’s a unique episode that takes a different storytelling approach, focusing on the perspective of a side character rather than the Doctor himself.
Have always be a fan saw them in 1977 Out of The Blue tour, thought they were good but very pleasantly surprised by the two warm up bands Steve Hillage and Gentle Giant
To really appeciate you have to play the entire “Concerto For A Rainy Day”, which is the entire side three of Out Of The Blue.
Could be, but eventually she had to Face the Music!
Saw Jeff Lynne’s ELO last year at MSG, and on their prior tour - excellent stuff. The 76 year old man stood there, “wore” one guitar after another, and did his thing for almost two hours. The major hits (including “Mr. Blue Sky”) had the audience standing up, and singing along; quite an experience. My personal favorite is “Can’t Get It Out of My Head” - which he did. Had hoped for “Roll Over Beethoven” as the encore, but he did not do it - their version of this song is, IMO, the best.
I saw that tour in Nashville last year. I thought of more as an ELO Tribute concert, but still overall a good presentation.
Never saw the “original” band so I really can’t do a comparison - to quote a friend, however, “Jeff Lynne IS ELO...” so, he was doing a tribute to himself? Maybe...
Well to me, ELO was Jeff, Bev Bevan and Kelly Groucutt.
Yeah, I can appreciate that...
“Has anyone else seen them live? What did you think?”
Cuz and I saw them when they first came out. Vegas at the Aladdin Theater. Best stage and light show I have seen yet on top of the great music. Especially for the era. ELO is “Sophisticated” rock... :)
Still listen to them a few times a week and have flashbacks of that stage performance.
Actually that was the highest grossing tour of the year
It took me a while to warm up to post-Xanadu ELO, although I’ve really come to love “Mr. Blue Sky” over the years. However, my all-time fav has got to be “Telephone Line”.
I was there also, but the year before the farewell tour. I couldn’t make the Oct 2 concert in Denver. So bummed.
Saw them live twice—Philly and the Burgh. They were fantastic.
I saw them at the Cap Center in DC in 2019. I thought they were excellent. Jeff Lynne has been a part of much of the music that I’ve listened to in my life. He’s produced tons of stuff. Major talent.
Saw them twice in DC. 2019 - 7th row center, 2024 - 5th row center.
Wow.
