The concept of Bolshevism arose at the Second Congress of the Russian Social Democratic Labour Party (1903) as a result of the split of the party into two factions: supporters of Lenin and the rest.
The Progressive Era in the United States saw the rise
T of progressive politicians across both major parties and even in third parties. Key figures included presidents Theodore Roosevelt (R(, William Howard Taft (R), and Woodrow Wilson (D). Teddy Roosevelt was elected in 1901.
The first Progressive Political party, so named, was formed in 1912.
The Bolsheviks and the Progressives arose in the same era.
Both advocated aggressive government over individual initiative and bodies of government to exercise authority through experts. As to the Left-Right of politics, both were of the Left, with one side preferring outright government control and the other side, the Fascistic Left preferring private capital enterprise on a short government leash and “enterprising” as government experts preferred; national industrial policy either directly or indirectly.
