In newsrooms, "suddenly" is often a euphemism for suicide. Sometimes they use "after a short illness" too.

I have no idea what happened here. No idea at all. So no disrespect meant. But I’ve had acquaintances who have died “suddenly”, only to find out later that it was a drug overdose.

Cops see terrible things and are usually pretty resilient. However, there are somethings that they don’t get over.
