I’ll tell you what I think; letting unknown (and frequently ghetto/third world) people deliver prepared food to you is downright stupid. Especially seeing them get upset over tips. There’s no telling what they’re doing to your food before you get it. No thanks.
I’ve delivered doordash occasionally. Recently I got an order for donuts and I handed it to the guy and he was about 350 lbs. He also sent me a note “I will tip you extra in cash”. He lied.
Not a good comparison at all. Waitresses and waiters are often paid $3.00 or less an hour. Tips are their pay. Yes this is legal.
Plummers are paid $40.00 or more an hour. Big difference...
I cannot believe people ask for strangers to go get their fast food orders. Unlicensed, possibly diseases riddled, dirty, mangy, strangers to handle their food and extort from them more money than the food itself is worth.
I agree. Why are people so thoughtless/cheap about tipping someone who has provided good service, particularly when there are circumstances that hinder the provision of that service to the customer. What would the customer think if they were in the shoes of the delivery person, and had to deal with difficult travel circumstances to get something to the customer in a reasonable amount of time ?
We don’t do DoorDash but we do order from a local pizzeria. There’s no extra delivery fee, but we still tip well. A few weeks ago we did our usual order with our usual tip. The skies suddenly opened up and lightning was crazy. I think he may have had an adventurous 2-mile drive. When the guy came to the door soaking wet, I gave him an extra five dollars. He was absolutely taken aback and thankful and even tried to give it back saying “are you sure?” That’s good service.
See post 16.
I know plumbers who don’t make your figure claimed, in fact where the company charges not much more than that, but who do you think can deliver great service or minimal service with the greatest range between those levels? Service plumbers doing hours of nasty, hard, dirty work in all weather and conditions out of your sight, or the gal bringing a plate to your table with you and her boss watching her?
Door dash fatigue.
I’m not sure. I own a number of franchises and we just bill the door dash people our normal price.
We do have a lot less “to-go” orders that are picked up by the actual customer, but they’ve been replaced by dash drivers.
