Modern medicine wants you to believe heartburn comes from too much acid
///////////////////////////////////////////////////
What is the point of having an article if the very first sentence is wrong.
Modern medicine does NOT want you to believe heartburn comes from too much acid. Modern medicine believes heartburn comes from a failed/failing/weakening lower esophagus valve that allows acid from the stomach, in its usual amount, to occasionally splash or flow up the esophagus. That’s why it’s heartburn — a burning sensation in the chest.
There are many tried fixes. An easy one is elevate the head of your bed an inch or two. Gravity makes it more challenging for acid to flow up the esophagus. An OTC Pepcid will reduce acid at night and thus lessen the odds of splash up the esophagus.
The whole matter is acid in the esophagus. Not the sheer total of acid in the stomach.
Oh, reeaallly? My hub never had heartburn...but a test (string with measuring device) down the throat found he had little to no HCL. Nothing to do with his esophogas.
Wrong. The efficacy behind PPI's is reduction in acid production
