He was a Sargent in the 359 infantry 90 division. He enlisted in Feb 1941 and only spent two months over seas. So he missed D-Day and the Battle of the Bulge.
His unit was fighting around Mainz Germany in March 1945 prior to setting up a pontoon bridge over the Rhine near Nierstein. At least that's where his unit was on Mar 24, two days before he was killed. The Germans by this time were pretty much broken and casualties were light but there were many snipers.
He died 44 days before Germany surrendered. He's the only one of my several Uncles who died in WW2.
