I was there for the 1981 Indy 500 and for the 2002 F1 US Grand Prix. You have to see it in person to comprehend how fast the cars are going.
i was there in 2015....purposely sat in turn 1 on Carb Day and it was like “holy sheeet!!”
We lived in Indianapolis back in the ‘60s.
Went to the ‘66 and ‘67 Indy 500s.
In ‘66 we sat close to the first turn and on the first lap there was a pile-up that took out one third of the cars.
There was only one injury and that was AJ Foyt climbed a huge fence to escape the wreckage and cut his hand.
As I remember the ‘67 was rained out and we went back the next day.
I was there twice too. Saw Jim Clark in a Lotus win in 1965. I actually owned a Lotus Elan then, was rooting for Clark. Don’t remember who won the other time I was there.
Started going in 78 and only missed 3 until Covid hit. Before that I always watched with my dad and his uncle since I was a kid!
There is one shot that portrays the speed “somewhat”, it’s along the wall, with flowers right next to the track- the speed, sound etc and flowers getting tossed around that make it look pretty awesome. Bu5 still nothing like being there I’m sure.
