At first, it seemed that the Indiana Fever’s home win over Chicago Sky on Saturday would be just another spicy chapter in the rivalry between Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark. Both players were typically excellent: Clark spurred the Fever to victory with a triple-double, while Reese grabbed 17 rebounds to go with her 12 points.
But it was a moment in the third quarter that WNBA fans will be talking about for weeks to come. Some of them may even do so without resorting to cheap bigotry. With 4:38 remaining, Clark reached for the ball over Reese’s head, made what appeared to be deliberate contact with her arm, and sent her opponent spiraling to the floor. There was a brief confrontation, Clark was hit with a flagrant foul and Reese received a technical. After the game, Clark said she didn’t have cynical intent leading up to the foul, and Reese agreed calling it “a basketball play.”
Depending on who you ask, the moment was either enthralling or disappointing. Fans may recall conversations about the physicality of the WNBA last season, as Clark was knocked around the court by veterans. It showed that women’s basketball is every bit as tough as the men’s game, and sometimes a foul is just a foul.
A moment like this isn’t always bad for anyone involved, including the players. Many say that these types of exchange drive up engagement, whether online or by attracting fans to WNBA arenas, which have enjoyed record attendance since Reese and Clark entered the league last season.
But there are, of course, different types of engagement. The increase in attention, scrutiny, and discourse can quickly take a downward turn, especially when women are involved.

There is no rivalry. One is a superstar, the other is a has been before she was even a never was
Stay out of our busniess limey leaches!
But think about it, what happens if a woman gets pregnant in the middle of the season?
Imagine it from the guy’s perspective, knowing that during a certain part of the year you have to make sure your wife doesn’t get pregnant?
I think a lot of female athletes do go lesbo, because they simply don’t want to deal with those things.
Not at first. It slowly started happening after Magic went to Bird’s place to film a shoe commercial.
The average high school bball games are more exciting and have better players
Yeah, okay.
I think it is stages to get interest in the WNBA
If you're feminine, you shouldn't be playing a sport like basketball.
This from a rag based in a country that regularly dismisses streetside beheadings and other machete related attacks as random acts of poopyheads.
Speaking of Inter-racial marriages, can we get thru a montage commercial on television that doesn’t have inter-racial couples? I realize they exist, but the woke screwballs who produce televison ads would have you think its 99% of the population.
Apparently the ad executives of Madison Avenue are scared shitless to produce commercial content showing a man and woman of the same race frolicking around in marital bliss. But at least they are presumably heterosexual.
I won’t get into how many ads I’ve seen with a bearded construction worker lip-locked with a white pony tailed dude.
“sent her opponent spiraling to the floor”
Reese has 3 inches and 30 lbs. on Clark......I call bullshit.
If you’re feminine, you shouldn’t be playing a sport like basketball.
Through college, fine. But after that? No. Problem is now, female athletes are making a lot more money than before.
How many will be willing to take a year off to have a baby?
Clark retaliated for Reese shoving one of her teammates immediately prior.
If the referee was calling it clean the situation wouldn’t have arisen. WNBA is a mess.
Or any sport
They're failing to take control. Usually, the referee is supposed to prevent the players from escalating. But we keep seeing this over and over.
Especially a team sport. An individual sport, like Tennis, if you take time off to have baby, only impacts you.
But carrying a baby during the middle of a basketball season impacts the entire team.
Caitlin who? Isn’t that the libtard who came out for BLM and Kamala?
I have better things to worry about.
Let me correct it "and her opponent flopped to the floor to try to incite racism and violence."
Most women in other sports are not lesbians and they cope just fine.
You can take time off for having a baby and come back after that, or retire then have babies like Serena Williams did.
Moat professional sports people men or women are past their peak by 35 anyway.
What in the actual duck?!?!
