Freepers, the honeymoon is well and truly over they cant even get the big beautiful bill out of committee...

We will drift now to perhaps inevitable midterm defeat unless something dramatic happens.

It's a combination of lack of leadership from ALL sides (branches) in my opinion and just no guts to make the necessary cuts.

What is your considered assessment?

It’s incredible that Green New Deal spending remains in the bill. The pandemic is long over. We should not be running $2T annual deficits. The Trump and Biden era pandemic spending hikes need to be phased out.

Getting 219 people to agree on everything is an impossible task to start with...but they’re working on it. Don’t be so damn impatient...and stop blaming Johnson. He’s doing a damn good job. Blame the damn committee. They should have made their wants known BEFORE the vote....and their job is to support the President’s agenda...not their personal agenda...and that includes the New Yorkers who play their games.

No plan or agreement is concerning. I think it has to move in a more conservative direction.

Reagan had defense budgets at around 6% of GDP, ran deficits from 3% to 6%. Trump is signing up for a deficit of 7% with a military budget of 3%. We are weak and bloated with non-defense spending.

I think it’s clear Trump and the White House need to move in a more conservative direction

He’s worried about the short term impact of cuts I reckon.

They need to come to an agreement and the Republican party shouldnt be torn apart like this.

Some Freepers hating on Rand for opposing it but he’s been right on this.

I don’t understand this story. The headline implies that conservatives were opposed to the bill. But the article says that all Democrats opposed it

Johnson has no idea what's going on in his House. He advanced a bill that got trounced by his own committee.

I'll walk you through it. The House Budget Committee is 20 Republicans and 17 Democrats. This spending bill lost 16-21. Four Republicans defected because this bill was out of control like every other budget since 2002.

Democrats oppose the bill because they want more spending and higher taxes than in the bill.

Non-RINO Republicans oppose it because they want less spending and lower taxes than in the bill.

Congress’s habit of “big, beautiful” (really ugly) bills is a major part of their corrupt overspending.

And that habit is continuing here. Continued “green” grants, funding for sex change operations, no incorporation of the DOGE cuts, for example from USAID. Overspending and corruption galore.

Meanwhile, they’ll be almost halfway through Trump’s two years of a Republican Congress before funding the mass deportations that Americans voted for and want.

They’ll add a fig leaf or two to their spending at midnight tonight, then vote it through—you are correct.
