I remember reading about Stirling Moss in the 1957 Mille Miglia, when his brake pedal broke off as he was approaching a corner at about 130. He made it through the corner somehow, then managed to slow the car to walking speed, whereupon he and his navigator jumped out and stopped the car by hand. He didn’t need no stinkin’ brakes either.
