They have every opportunity to distinguish themselves, but their peers, their criminal neighbors, their absent parents, and politicians' and the media's communism (which feeds them with sloth, racism and envy daily) drag them down.
Don't blame the teachers; they can't do anything without solid parental discipline to back them up.
The good news is that the minute this all dawns on them, they can effect a rapid cure, and many can do great things.
