In the era of leftist environmental fear-mongering, companies far and wide are looking for ways to virtue signal their supposed eco-friendliness.
But consumers are often left with products that are less effective, more annoying, or both.
One example that has infuriated motorists for years is the trend in newer vehicles for the engine to shut off at stops — a feature that is almost universally despised by the general public

The trans shifter that looks and acts like an oversized radio knob. Had a rental with that once... Once. Don’t think I could ever get used to that.
“ They should not get rid of the regulation.”
It should be mandatory on cars owned by democRATS.
If I simply don’t press harder than needed when I stop the motor keeps running. Very easy.
Mine doesn't do that either. I stopped buying cars once I got old, and have leased my last two cars. I'm due to turn this one in soon. I'm going to make sure the next one I lease doesn't have that feature. I hate the push button start on these cars though, and no CD players. The main thing I need in a car is power seats and a seat belt that doesn't require me to reach too far back with my left arm to grab it and pull forward. I have a very bad left shoulder (my dominant arm). They told me I need a full shoulder replacement, however I'm not willing to take the chance of losing all use of the arm if it doesn't work.
That sounds like a pain in the ass. They make you pay for all the extra shit they put on a car, half of which you don't use, and can't even disable it permanently if you want.
There are ways ro defeat the SS feature on most cars. Check on youtube for your specific model. For example on a Mazda CX50 you can just disconnect the hood release sensor plug. Takes about 10 seconds. It can be restored just as quickly.
There is a switch, but I have to switch the SS off EVERY TIME I start the car.
Under controls or prefs, there’s an OFF option somewhere. My 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee HEMI V8 has that option.
The POS Chevy my daughter had lost a starter at a red light due to the engine on/off switch. There wasn’t a button to disable that feature.
engine control has always been a fundamental aspect of hybrid automobiles ... for example, toyota has been making the Prius for almost 30 years now and there doesn’t seem to be any particular problems with the way their Prius ICE engine is operated ...
Scotty Kilmer agrees:

Personally, I own a 2024 Honda Accord Hybrid and the only way i can tell whether the ICE engine is one or off is by looking at the power flow screen ...
apparently, though manufacturers do recommend special engine oils for hybrids, which i think are more hygroscopic than regular engine oils, and all the major engine oil manufacturers make said special oils that meet manufacturers’ specs ...
Since it saves so little gas & is an extreme annoyance, that means they will probably retrofit it, if possible. My car won’t go in for the retrofit if they do. Another thing they could eliminate is direct injection (except for diesels of course). it has some drawbacks.

You are so decrepit, just like me. ;-D Nobody ever told me that growing old hurts everywhere.
Right. But what I described permanently eliminates the need to turn it off each time you start the car.
Nice to know you!! There used to be an old saying that "life begins at 40." I don't know about you, but 40 was when I started finding out about all the health problems I have. Tomorrow I'm visiting the pain clinic to hopefully get the first gel injection of a three-injection regime in my shoulder. Cortisone shots worked for a while, but now do nothing.
Maybe they will do that for my knees.
They had a 2016 new leftover and a 2017 new current model and the 2017 had the start stop. Guess which one I bought.
They do use gel on people's knees. You should ask about it. I haven't had it done yet because the cortisone shots I get in them once a year have worked so far. I have bone on bone in my knees. They told me I'd probably need knee replacements in both, and I told them hopefully I'll be dead before then.
I feel the worse when I get up in the morning. Joints and back are all stiff, and it takes a while for me to get my sea legs. Once I'm up for a while, I'm able to move around a lot better, but then I go to bed and getting up starts the cycle all over again.
I’ve been completely unable to find any reference to such a setting in the manual or online. However, ChatGPT pointed me to a hardware product you can buy and install that will do it.
Doesn’t bother me in the least on my VW, but they did a great job with it and it’s barely noticeable. I have been in some cars though where it sucks.
