A “mistake by the police officer” didn’t cost her her freedom.

Father and daughter have driving issues. Better go look for mom, too.
I get them when I drive overseas. It requires you to have a valid driver’s license. If she didn’t have a valid license, she should not have been issued a IDP, so she was driving illegally. Deportation...she didn’t follow the rules, she gets a trip home.
Stopped the wrong car and arrested a criminal. That is not a bad thing.
”…’s just heartbreaking that a mistake by a police officer cost this person her freedom ultimately and may cost her her residency in the United States.”
That statement is just SO wrong on so many levels.
First off, she did not have legal residency here. She’s an illegal.
Second, the “mistake” by the officer is totally irrelevant.
Third, she will be deported and et her freedom back. It just won’t be in the USA.
Fourth, “heartbreaking” to who? Not me, not to the 70 million who voted for this, and certainly not to the 2/3 of Americans who approve of it.
“Mexico will issue its citizens driver’s license and plates even if they are here”
REALLY?
I drove in England on business trips in the 80s and it was easy then. I think I rented a car with only my California DL.
Sounds like things have changed.
It was just a matter of time before she was caught. In many ways, she and her family were lucky they got away with this crime for as long as they did.
For some reason my heart’s not breaking. 🙄
So she was pulled over by mistake and found to be in the country illegally? I call that serendipity.
...even then, I think being here illegally was really what cost her freedom.
Get caught up in the system, for any reason, you’ll find that being ID’d is going to be part of the process, as it should. If that means you’re here illegally then you’ll be deported, as you should be.
That is due process. For anyone else, if it turns out the police were wrong, the issue is dropped through continued due process. Due-process should not mean ‘a trial’ for somebody that, simply, needs deporting.
You could argue that there’s so many illegals from Mexico & S. America that if you’ve any other marker, like an MS13 tattoo, that is REASONABLE suspicion alone that you’re not here legally and is subject for being checked.
What part of being Illegal doesn’t anyone understand.
Was in traffic court and heard the same complaint. The judge said, "Ma'am, sometimes when ya go fishin', ya only catch one fish."
Another woman stepped up on a revolked license. The judge asked how she got there. "I drove my car." Bam. That was trouble.
Me either - the 'press' is leaving out stuff that cuts into the drama queen victim narrative.
PEOPLE who travel ALOT have those.
KNOW 2 people from Sweden who had such. THEY BOTH WORKED FOR SAS...
They would come to Calif about every other year & take one of my cars to travel around the USA. I always called my insurance agent & got her OK.
NEVER had any problems
SHE ALSO DOES NOT HAVE A DRIVER’S LICENSE==NO INSURANCE !!!
WHAT DOES YOUR UNINSURED MOTORIST COVERAGE COST YOU???
I have never had an accident.
Driven over a million miles===444,000 +++ on just ONE vehicle
UNINSURED MOTORIST COVERAGE= 48.*% of truck premium 39+ % on my car.
SOOOOOOOOOO—SHE HAS BEEN UNAWARE THAT THEY ARE ALL HERE ILLEGALLY???
NOT BUYING THAT.
Years ago Florida had lots of ‘illegals’ who didn’t bother to buy car insurance. If one of them hit your car and you were injured your car insurance would cover some of your bills but if you were injured and needed long term care you were out of luck. People bought uninsured motorist insurance because it was the most important insurance you could buy. (the other group of ‘uninsured’ were people who had so many accidents they couldn’t afford insurance. And that bunch continued to have accidents...hitting folks like us)
Sounds like she’s driving without a license, probably no insurance, and doesn’t appear to be in the country legally.
Deport her.
