Churches today are not churches at all using the Biblical definition.

The Lord Jesus Christ and His finished work (His death, burial, resurrection) is the 1. Foundation of the ekklesia of God; 2. He is the Head of the ekklesia of God; 3. He is the Center and has the pre-eminence in the ekklesia of God; 4. He and He alone is the Unifying Identity of the ekklesia of God (David Bolton, christcenteredchristianity.com).

He is none of these things in what are called churches today. Even the word “church” is not in scripture. Ekklesia in Greek was a common secular word used to describe gatherings even of unbelievers. Not a religious word.
