The other 4 are all quality and popular, so both. Def Leppard is neither. They had some crappy hits in the 80s. Other people have said Cream and the Kinks. Black Sabbath is also up there. If you want contemporaries of theirs who are better, The Clash, The English Beat, Asia. I’d put Adam and the Ants and Duran Duran higher than them. But to each his own...
Black Sabbath
Funny thing is, way back when I had the album, that was a song I skipped over. Thought it was dull.
Now, recently having heard again for the first time since ~1983, it’s one of my favorite songs ever by anyone. It’s absolutely delightful.
The Police changed the game. Suddenly everybody wanted to drum like Stewart Copeland.

Beatles No 1 (without them there is not much of a list)
Stones No 2
Moody Blues No 3
Who No 4
Rest — whatever.
This is an early PF song I like, with Richard Wright on vocals

There’s at least 2 I would trade on the list I would trade for Jethro Tull, and a multitude of others.
Led Zeppelin has about three good songs. The rest is pretentious pap.
You are correct.
I’d rather listen to The Kinks or The Sex Pistols than Def Leopard.
Love the Police.
Jeff Lynn and ELO are in the top 2....imho. How do they not get a mention? get that the Who and Deff are in the mix....just not my cup of tea....never understood the Stones sustained attraction either.
Beatles....like them or not....were/are the biggest band ever. They changed music. I liked their early stuff, but thought some of the later SP stuff was good too. Some of it sucked too.
We all have our preferences.....no one is wrong....just opinions.
ELO had lots of hits that most forget about. YouTube it.
What makes a success is the lyrics, not the noise.....I like the noise too...but not at the expense of the message of the song. There are exceptions ....think Dire Straits Mark knoffler guitar.
What! No Hawkwind!!
Can’t take this list seriesly hugh.
The Move (w/ Jeff Lynne) - California Man

Funny that ELO started out as a side project for the members of The Move.
I didn’t know that when Cheap Trick did it, it was a cover.
Nobody’s mentioned The Animals?
Def Leppard? I thought they were a German hair band. They suck.

The Beatles are ours. That’s my story, and I’m sticking to it.
What has nine arms and sucks?
You’re going to H-E-Double Hockey sticks for that one.
And so am I for laughing at it.
ELO had lots of hits that most forget about. YouTube it.
One of my favorites. I saw an interview where Rick said he wasn’t happy with it, but I’ve loved since I first heard it.
