Funny thing about this earthquake swarm expected around the Axial Seamount in the Rift Zone that is driving the - now overdue! - Mag 8.6 to 9.2 earthquake and tsunami off the BC-WASHINGTON-OREGON-NORCAL Cascadia Fault.
The USGS official earthquake records since 1920 report less than 16 earthquakes of any magnitude within a 100 km radius of the Axial Seamount.
Tens of thousands (literally) north and south of the Seamount, closer to shore and a few hundred further from shore, but less than 16 near the volcano itself.
Further south, just offshore of California’s Cape Mendocino, several dozens of small and medium earthquakes occur every week since the 5 Dec 2024 Mag 7.0 quake. So the Cascadia Fault remains loaded for trouble.
Like shotgun thrown in a fireplace, we just don’t know when it will be set off.
