He belongs to the order of St Augustine.

From their website....

“The Rule of St. Augustine:

The main purpose for your having come together is to live harmoniously in your house, intent upon God, with one heart and one soul (Acts 4:32).

Therefore call nothing your own, but let everything be yours in common. Food and clothing shall be distributed to each of you by your superior, not equally to all, for all do not enjoy equal health, but rather according to each one’s need. For so you read in the Acts of the Apostles that “they had all things in common, and each was given what he needed”

Sounds a lot like “from each according to their ability to each according to their needs” - Straight out of Karl Marx.

If he follows these dictates, nothing is going to change and the catholic church will further decline into irrelevance - just another leftist organization.

as an aside, I love the city of St Augustine Florida. It’s beautiful. Yes I know, that has nothing to do with anything.

For so you read in the Acts of the Apostles that “they had all things in common, and each was given what he needed”

***************************************************

Soon afterwards, Paul was traveling all over the place trying to raise money for the Christians in Jerusalem that had gone broke.

That method is still used for missionary work - where the missionaries rely on the kindness of others so that they may focus on spreading the word of God. It is a good system for that. Running society as a whole using that system sets it up for failure.

IMHO, I think the early Christians in Jerusalem thought that Jesus’ return was imminent, so they didn't need their stuff (”sold everything”) and the saving of people was urgent due to their belief that Christ was soon returning.

Of course I'm the other way, and there is no urgency or rush to proclaim Jesus to others - even the one's I love. There is time....
