Audrey worked at a woolen mill in town. Part of story is that she didn't pick up her paycheck which sounds like part of a plan to throw her husband off track.

It sounds like she was on a mission and wasn't going to get caught in a preparation stage.

I missed that part of the story as the article posted here didn't mention that key fact. The People.com link says that she DID pick up her paycheck though.

On July 7, 1962, Backberg, who was married and had two children, left her family’s home and headed for the woolen mill, where she worked, to pick up her paycheck, the advocacy group said. She never returned home, prompting her husband Ronald to reach out to his wife's relatives to inquire about her whereabouts.
