Jon Voight has been taking meetings around town with union reps and studio executives to understand the issues plaguing domestic production, Deadline has confirmed...
We understand that Trump’s other two ambassador picks, Sylvester Stallone and Mel Gibson, are not involved in Voight’s conversations...
The exact plan that Coming Home Oscar winner Voight, whose daughter is Angelina Jolie, has prepared for Trump is unclear, but sources with knowledge of his conversations with Hollywood insiders tell us they expect a federal tax incentive to be the main component.
As the lack of production in L.A. displays, the U.S. film and television industry has suffered greatly from a growing number of runaway productions over the years. International territories including the UK, Canada and Hungary have significantly beefed up their own financial incentives, tax credits and infrastructure during the past decade. Stateside, while individual states from the heavy hitters of New York and Georgia to smaller jurisdictions like New Mexico have done what they can to bolster their own local industries, union representatives have been raising the idea of a federal tax break to further incentivize domestic production for some time.
...Sources have pointed out that any major funding initiative using taxpayer dollars would contradict the administration’s rhetoric on trimming the fat from the federal budget and bringing down the national debt.
However, bolstering domestic film and television production is in line with Trump’s agenda to bring jobs back from overseas, more generally. In his Truth Social decree in January, Trump said he was appointing Voight, Stallone and Gibson with “the purpose of bringing Hollywood, which has lost much business over the last four years to Foreign Countries, BACK—BIGGER, BETTER, AND STRONGER THAN EVER BEFORE!”

Obviously.
Exactly, go woke go broke.
If they need money, they can always rerelease the classics.
Jon, I don’t care about Hollywood.
He’s one of the good guys (which is why his daughter, Angelina Jolie hates him so much).
I think they need to move movie making to a (tax-free) red state.
Thanks for posting this highly important issue at Hollywood.
Maybe Hollywood should produce new movies instead of remakes.
What does his ethnicity have to do with it?
So we’re going to be paying for more Trump and MAGA bashing democrat made movies?
Count me out.
Because #MeToo demanded the firings of all of the lecherous Jews in the production realm who ensured great movies and TV series were made (even if they were otherwise rotten human beings) and replaced them with Longhouse Karen AWLFs who are now producing dreck.
Are you only now learning that the production arm of Hollywood used to be composed almost entirely of lecherous, skeevy Jewish men?
Hollywood cannot sustain itself because it is located in California. They are heavily regulated like everyone here, and the cost of living is astronomical. Sure the actors and the directors can get well paid but the entire production crew, set design, drivers, electricians, camera operators, caterers and everything else (could be 1000 people in all) require fat incomes to live near and raise families near their place of work. (And the work is sometimes sporadic, seasonal). It is simply much cheaper to hire 1000 people in Georgia or New Mexico or even the UK, especially because of the huge rebates. I think the UK rebates 20 to 30% of the production cost (with some certain caveats about the money being spent in the UK). And more for small independent films. That’s a very high amount. It makes them one of the principle investors, but they don’t even get a piece of the action. The proceeds go to the production company, distributor and other investors. It will be hard to make such a deal fly, politically speaking, in the US. Imagine taxpayers putting billions of dollars into making films and not getting any return for the investment. California wants to offer rebates, but is broke.
Obviously one of the reasons L.A. keeps what is still has is because some of the actors, the skilled workers, equipment and infrastructure are already here. But they are starting to age out so to speak.
Those on the big screen would be a big draw.
Hollywood etc is so out of touch with mainstream America, they’ll likely never think of it or think it would work.
They’re seemingly convinced all people want to see is wokist, leftist, perverted sex and violence trash judging by what they’re producing these days.
The State of California had almost killed what was once a thriving film industry. This is a well needed change and could stimulate new film production and Jobs. A film provides work for a whole army of experts from costumers, set design, to producers and PR men. Hollywood needs to follow its own design and make movies people want to see and not depend upon the box office in China. Hollywood should be about $. I have always thought Trump could be a great film-maker like Howard Hughes.
What films do you think should be made?
Movies that should be made—its all about the story, not special effects:
1. CSS Alabama, The story of the CSA raider and her foxy captain.
2. The story of the Bell Witch—America’s greatest Ghost Story.
3. The Disney Brothers vs the Fleisher Brothers feud. The cartoon battle, Micky Mouse vs Betty Boop.
4. The first to fight. The unknown story of Black Pilots who fought for Ethiopia against Fascist Italy in the war before WW II. An unfair match between old WWI fighters against Mussolini’s best.
5. The story of the siege of Vicksburg in 1863 and the CSS Arkansas ironclad, that almost changed the outcome.
6. Uncle Toms. A story of a 19th Century acting company performing Uncle Tom’s Cabin in the mid-west, changing the story, adding music and dancing to attract customers to the point of giving it a happy ending! With Simon Legree and Uncle Tom becoming friends! (This could be funny and it really happened). I give out these ideas for free.
Release the Epstein list, purge and arrest the pervs and pedos. Only then can anyone start talking about any tax breaks.
Right! Hollywood wore out its welcome LOOOONG ago!
Sorry, we’re broke. Spend your own money.
Better yet, try making movies that appeal to normal people who have jobs.
EC
Tax incentives? No. I cannot see the average tax payer footing the bill for woke, homosexual and communist plagued movies. Or those with nothing but wall to wall violence and use of the F word.
Bring back movies characteristic of the 30’s to mid 60’s, then maybe it will be worth it. But those running Hollywood would never tolerate it.
