My age has far less to do with anything; it's the way I was brought up, that is coloring my views, which would have been the same at any age you'd care to guess I am.

Just WHY is it just oh sooooooooooooooooooooooooooo very wrong of me to NOT join in with the droolers, who praise every single thing, good, bad, or indifferent?

Any YOU have totally ignored every single extremely good post I have presented.

So, for a change, please answer the following: Are things ( behavior, lack of manners, the way people dress and look ) better now, OR were they better in the recent past?

And do NOT bring up new gadgets, technology, etc.! That, yes, is part of it ( bad behavior, etc.! ), but right now, please focus on general behavior and dress.

Of course "things" were better but only in the same way that everything was better in the past according to each older generation, going all the way back to Socrates.

To accuse our First Lady, Melania Trump, of causing our civilization to crumble by any degree is stuff and nonsense.

I will add, as I replied to MayflowerMadam, above.

Because the fashion mavens snubbed her in President Trump's first term, she is apparently getting back at them by not giving them any chance for them to snub her again.
Do you remember how the fashionistas and journalists would not design outfits for her and excoriated her for anything she wore?

NP - You are so right. Appropriate dress is not, or should not be, an indicator of age. It’s a reflection, generally, of how a person was raised. (I have years to go to reach octogenarian.) And it’s true that things WERE better “behavior, lack of manners, the way people dress and look” in the past.

Like seeing women in church wearing pants ... I don’t get THAT. Even when I go to church alone on a Saturday to practice piano/organ, I wear a skirt.

I understand decorum won’t improve; we began the slippery slope toward crude a long time ago. Guess we just have to live with it.
