The Empire State Building, the 102-story skyscraper on Fifth Ave. between West 33rd and 34th Streets in Midtown Manhattan stands 1,454 feet tall. It was the world’s tallest building for 39 years from its completion in 1931 until the World Trade Center’s North Tower was completed in 1970. It has been named one of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World by the American Society of Civil Engineers.

Excavation of the site began on January 22, 1930, and construction of the building began on March 17. The project involved 3,400 workers, mostly European immigrants, as well as hundreds of Mohawk iron workers. Despite an astonishing lack of safety regulations, only five workers died during construction.

I get queezy just looking at those pictures!

So do I!

My legs get all "rubbery" and shaky-feeling (glad I'm sitting)

It's not exactly vertigo...I had to look around for a name for the symptoms, and it is

"Visual Height Intolerance"

‘And it’s still a beautiful building. Was put together right. Good stone.‘

You have not been inside?

Marble. Granite

Of course steel. The entire NYC skyline exists due to the combination of the production of steel and the uncommon ground makeup of NYC

My comment was on the beauty

Mansplaining. Huff.

Myself and the family went to the “top” of the ESB in the Summer of 1967. I was 9 and don’t remember it much other than being on top of the observation Deck. I don’t recall if it was the deck on the 86th or 102 floor. Seems it was open air so I’m guessing it was the 86th.

"That whiskey bottle may have been repurposed for water. Pre-plastic days..."

No label on the bottle and looks like it might be half empty of a clear liquid. I suppose a repurposed flat whiskey bottle might be more easily replaced if dropped as well as easier to fit in one's clothing.

The guy on the right has a whisky bottle.
All the men have regular leather shoes. No safety gear at all.
