I tried growing potatoes one year in west-central Arizona. Turned five pounds of seed potatoes into a handful of brown marbles. The vines looked good, though.

Soil lacked some nutrients and water............

Potatoes can aid weight loss and blood sugar control when prepared properly So, if I grow potatoes in my garden and tun them into vodka, I'll lose weight and be healthier?

Well, I used some fertilizer, not a lot, and watered regularly. I’ll just buy spuds at the store.

Potato Plant pH
Potato plants prefer slightly acidic soil with a pH ranging from 5.0 to 7.0.
Commercial growers typically aim for a pH between 4.8 and 5.4, which is more acidic.
However, potatoes can still grow well in a pH range of 6.0 to 6.5.
A higher pH can lead to increased susceptibility to scab, a potato disease.
If your soil pH is higher than the ideal range, you can lower it by incorporating elemental sulfur or using a soil acidifier.

Could have been, I never checked the pH. Most of the rest of the garden did OK.

I would almost bet your soil is alkaline................

You say< “po-tay-to,” I say...oh, never mind.

Good information. A lot of Arizona soil is on the alkaline side. If I ever try potatoes again, I’ll watch soil pH.

It’s what you do to the potatoes that make them fattening.

i believe baked potatoes also assist in preventing strokes
