Based on that video concerning the XM-7, it sounds like they tried to make the weapon ideal for way too many situations - jack of all trades, but master of none.

And what’s with the weight? Is it really that heavy?

The caliber is in that range where long distance plinking is possible, similar to the 6.5mm Creedmore. But yet, a short barrel, like a carbine.

Of course, the narrator of the video doesn’t like the M-14 and that’s almost sacrilegious. Who doesn’t like a nice M-14?

As long as SIG is awarded the contracts and cashes the checks, the thing could fail in every role and the PTB will be okay with it. Like the M17/18, the hierarchy will do whatever it takes to achieve the correct outcome... which is enriching the stakeholders of SIG.
