Many times (in the Chattanooga region), but not all times, storms from the west will kind of split when they cross Monteagle and the Cumberland plateau. Many times, it’s rained north of me and south of me, but nary a drop on me. Tonight, there was some rain (about 3/10 of an inch according to my rain gauge) and some distant thunder, but no really turbulent weather.

Also, sometimes, weather coming up from the southwest will tend to get trapped between the ridges and just ride up slowly along the Appalachians. it’s an interesting area for weather.

I think we have had enough rain for this month already but tomorrow is going to be an all day sucker.
