The M-1 Garand rifle was the best damn rifle the Army ever came up with. When I was in ROTC, they took us to the range at Fort Dix. I had never before fired any kind of weapon. They put an M-1 in my hand, and I made Sharpshooter my first time out. I was hitting targets all the way downrange. But it wasn't me. That rifle found the targets, and all I had to do was squeeze the trigger. The M-1 made me look like a genius.

I agree with you about the M1 Garand. I first qualified with it's successor, the M-14.

You might like this little video about a guy shooting a Lee-Enfield that he just bought. He wanted to see if he could evev come close to a man-sized target at 1,000 yards. The trick is that he only had three rounds.
