Still throwing rods after 100 plus years.
This sounds like a BS fix. First off they would have to tear the lower side of the engine completely down in order to inspect it. Then dumping heavy oil in it to temporarily hide any damage is a real hoot. That sham started with used car salesman.
If Gm would stop replacing their old proven engines with new junk designs then they would not be in this boat.
Yet 47 of the 51 innovative Tucker 48’s are still functional and road worthy. Watch the movie, “Tucker: The Man and His Dream” by Francis Coppala, starring Jeff Bridges (1988).
Government Motors.
I would expect nothing less.
“ failure of the engine due to crankshaft, connecting rod, or engine bearing issues, including 14,332 involving allegations of loss of propulsion”
Once it hangs a rod out of the side of the block, it probably a fair bet that it will lose propulsion.
They have had 80 yrs since the war to improve engines and drive train. They have had some real successes, with the small block series especially.
So I always wonder why they don’t stick with what works, and save time and money trying to come up with more garbage?
I watch youtube videos from mechanics on fixing issues with cars and trucks and it amazes me how stupid some things are designed and how hard they have made it to fix for the mechanics and expensive for the customer.

“...The connecting rod and/or crankshaft engine components may have manufacturing defects that can lead to engine damage and engine failure...”
I wonder where the parts were manufactured...
