A pregnant woman says that she's changing the name she and her husband had initially decided on for their unborn child — but her mother-in-law has already gotten a tattoo of the original name.
In a post shared to Reddit, the anonymous 30-year-old woman writes: "My husband and I are expecting our first child, a boy."
"We had a name we liked but never told anyone it was final," she adds.
But that didn't stop her mother-in-law from inking the name permanently on her body.
"My MIL (57), who has always been a bit much, took it upon herself to get the name tattooed on her wrist," she continues in the post. "We were shocked but still unsure about the name."
A month later, the couple ultimately decided "to go with something else."
"When she found out, she LOST IT, saying we 'disrespected' her, and now she’s demanding we change it back," the woman writes. "Even my husband is asking me to reconsider 'to keep the peace.' " She, however, refuses.
Reddit users are now chiming in on the situation, with many criticizing the mother-in-law for taking such a dramatic step in the first place.
Wrote one: "And thiiiiis is why we don't get names as tattoos."
Added another commenter: "Until the kid is HERE, the name is always hypothetical. Hell, I've read articles where people changed their baby's name months after birth because it didn't fit them. She's silly for jumping the gun."
Still others suggested a compromise.
"Can you use it as a middle name?" wrote a commenter. "Otherwise too bad for MIL she should have waited!"

Trashy trash.
I’m the first GenXer (1965). Tats are cool. They are a great FU to busy body boomers without even having to say anything. Their own self righteousness gets them pissed off without the other person being aware that their decision to adorn themselves for whatever personal reason has achieved it. The world is not coming to an end because people have tats; all those boomers in the fed gov don’t have any, and they are the source of our problems. I have my wife’s name tattooed on my wedding ring finger. More permanent than any gold band. Am I an idiot? Am I a degenerate dirtbag? Mrs cport doesn’t think so. She loves it, even spontaneously kisses it some times and looks at me and says I love you. Rant over, flame away.
I don’t understand why ANYONE gets a tattoo. A lot of pain to permanently mark yourself seems stupid to me.
I don’t care about the excuses people give, none of them make sense to me...
Most men I know say tattoos and piercings mean easy meat.
You’re free to do what you want and we are free to think its stupid. Lots of free going on...
Good for you and I agree.
😂😂🤣

Leviticracks states, “You shall not make any cuts in your bodies for the dead or put tattoo marks on yourselves. I am the LORD.”
Satan is going to strap your skinny Xer butt in a rocket sled aimed directly down into H-E-L-L, that spells moon, laws yes.
That used to be, “Oh, doing my own thing, man”.
The funniest stuff centers on the Chinese tatoos. They almost never say what the recipient was told they mean. My wife, who is Chinese, burst out laughing in a restaurant one day, but wouldn’t tell me why. Once we left the place, she leaned in an said, “Our waitress’s tatto said ‘I’m a diseased whore’”. I kid you not.
That is in scripture, no marking yourself in memoriam.
One of my favorite stories about name tattoos centers around Johnny Depp. Back in the 90’s he was seriously involved with fellow actress Winona Ryder. He had a tattoo on his shoulder that said “Winona Forever”. Well, unfortunately they later broke up. So Johnny had a rose tattooed over the “na” in “Winona” so it now reads “Wino Forever”.
🤣🤣
CC

I hope mom stands her ground.
The husband is way out of line in pandering to his mom. He needs to man up and tell her, tough beans.
The m-i-l needs to learn a lesson in many regards here. One is not to presume too much, and the other is that she cannot bully people into catering to her as seems like she is well used to doing.
I had that one figured out back in jr high in the late 60's.
All rebelling against the system and conformity by conforming to the group concept of rebellion. They couldn't even be creative in their non-conformity.
I remember in 8th grade, at the height of the mini-skirt/fish net stocking era, that the new style was a peasant look and had not come to the Buffalo area, except for one girl who one day wore it to school. There was about a riot in the halls from kids trying to get a look at her. You count not squeeze through the hall at all it was packed so tightly. I really admired her for her bravery in going against social convention and doing something outside the accepted social standards of the day.
