A case of 1,000 .308 with 150 gr bullets weighs about 30 lbs. This van load of 180 cases would weigh over 5,000 lbs. They were probably up to no good.

In before, “Meh, that’s a day at the range”.
Probably for the cartels. The alternative is much worse. The feds will easily trace the supplier, and I’m guessing they were arrested, or at least interviewed, before this story was released.

The two Mexicans should be deported. No doubt whomever they were
transporting the ammunition for would do some frontier justice.

150 boxes of .308 at 1,000 rounds per box is 150,000 rounds. I went to my bulk ammo dealer and that round goes for about 80 cents each at a bulk rate. That’s about $120,000 before sales tax, if they paid it.
I bet they could double their money easy in Mexico.
In some rifles 7.62 x 51 and .308 are interchangeable. My civilian M14 will fire both but the manufacturer recommends not using .308 as it may slam fire due to slightly different shaped casings.

” terrorist attacks in America, not only from the thousands, perhaps tens of thousands, of Islamist terrorists who strolled across our wide-open borders but from Mexican cartels.”Sounds like a set up for a movie like “Red Dawn” (1984).
A cargo van is probably rated to carry 4000-5000 lb of cargo, so the van was probably riding very low on squished suspensions.
