The problem with comedy is that comedy exposes invariable truths to human existence. Comedy can’t be mean, either, just like impressionists have to like the people they do an impression of - Shane Gillis’ Trump impression is hilarious, while Alec Baldwin’s is passe’.

I love Benny Hill and am really sad that most British comedy before 2000 is now unknown because it’s censored. You couldn’t do the German episode of Fawlty Towers or the WWI gay pilot sketch (or pretty much anything) from Monty Python today. Let alone the Young Ones.

Let alone the Young Ones.

The Young Ones was hilarious when I was a teen in the 80s. I tried watching it again about a decade ago and was really put off by the anti-Thatcher stuff. But, it was still damn funny. They were my introduction to Motörhead and Ace of Spaces!
