They said the same about boxing which was the biggest thing and then it wasn't. Football is hanging on because other professional sports such as baseball, basketball, and hockey have dropped far worse.

These leagues are chasing sports gamblers because they're the last large demographic left.

The problem with chasing gamblers is that when they find something better to gamble on, they'll leave the NFL behind, just like they did with boxing and horse racing. Yeah, those sports are still around, but they're a shell of what they once were.
