When you pursue EXCELLENCE you will get diversity.... because excellence is not limited to any race, creed, religion, or gender. If the goal is excellence, diversity happen on its own accord as long as the playing field is somewhat fair.
Diversity, simply for diversities sake is the EXACT OPPOSITE OF EXCELLENCE... doing diversity simply for diversities sake ensures excellence will never be achieved.
The issue as I see it is this, yes, there absolutely has not been a fair playing field throughout US history. There absolutely have been, and continue to be unfair thing in our nations history. Anyone who denies that, well they are an unthinking idiot.
The problem comes in is that the belief that because of those past, and even current wrongs, will somehow be righted, if you just check boxes and meet quotas in hiring or university admissions, or whatever, is just fundamentally wrong and misguided.
Is it fair that poor children, particularly poor black children and stuck in public schools that absolutely fail them? No, its not. This robs them of their potential in life. Is it fair that, even in better schools, these children often are being “educated” by white liberals who fall for all the gobbledeegook and lower their expectations for these kids and never actually challenge many of them or expect great things from them? No, its not.
However the solution to this problem is not to say, Hey, IVY LEAGUE you have to let these kids in, even though they aren’t remotely at a level where they can actually handle it. You are setting them up for failure.
DEI is simply racism, period... Systemic, racism. No, its not “reverse racism” because there is no such thing as “reverse racism”... its just flat out racism. Its absolutely counter to any sort of pursuit of excellence.
When you are pursuing excellence, you don’t have quotas, you simply go out and try. to find the best person for what you need to do, period.
Unless you are doing market research for a product targeted at black lesbian women, a black lesbian woman’s voice is no more valuable than anyone else.
I am not so dumb that I don’t see the true inequities and issues that still exist in our society, they do, and we should do things to change them. HOwever DEI, sure as hell ain’t it and will do nothing long term to improve anything.
I still remember when they called it affirmative action instead of DEI.
