I’m as white as white can be....one of my early memories is staying home from school sick, and since there was no one to watch me I went to work with my grandparents. Picking cotton. I rode around on their sacks as they walked down the aisles picking cotton.

Yep. But Jasmine “We Done Pickin’ Cotton” Crockett never picked it. She grew up in St. Louis, as I did, and I know that the nearest cotton field is 200 miles away in the Missouri Bootheel. She attended private schools where the cultural, political, and economic elite of St. Louis send their children:the McDonnells, the Danforths, the Symingtons. You would think she would have better grammar./s
