As the doomsday global warming hounds bay, the current April freeze is going to do serious damage to the Pennsylvania and Maryland apple crop. Tonight temps are going to dip into the mid-20s.

I’m in western Maryland where orchards abound and the phone I’m reading FR on just buzzed like mad to tell me there is a freeze warning in effect.
All the fruit trees are in blossom.
Grim.
When I was a kid I remember them using smudge pots to try and avoid the freeze.
Not sure what they do now, if anything.
I’m in SW Pa and woke up to 24 degree temps and snowing pretty hard. Snow is gone now, but still 29 degrees as I type this.
