Meant to add, the clay mixed into the iron weakened the structure, and being the base, it caused the whole structure to crack and fall apart and tumble down.
The communists tried doing that here in the US decades ago- their goal was long term destruction of the US from within- and like kruschef (sp?) I think it was said, a war was unnecessary because America would topple from within.
