Kathleen Turner looked frail as she made a rare public outing in NYC this week - months after her failing health caused her to drop out of a play.

The Body Heat and Romancing The Stone star, 70, looked shaky as she leaned on a walker after stepping away from the spotlight.

For the trip, Turner wore a long, dark overcoat, over a blue sweater, black pants, and black sneakers, as she made her way to an awaiting vehicle with the help of two people

The screenplay reminds me a lot of the Raymond Chandler movies like The Big Sleep and Double Indemnity.

Here's another quote:
Ned: Can I buy you a drink?
Matty: I told you. I've got a husband.
Ned: I'll buy him one too.
Matty: He's out of town.
Ned: My favorite kind. We'll drink to him.
Matty: Only comes up on weekends.
Ned: I'm liking him better all the time.

Someone mentioned she might be on steroids for her autoimmune disease. That can cause big weight gain.

I alway liked Bette Davis' comment: "Old age isn't for sissies."

I understand Kathleen Turner is a far Leftist (not my kind of person) but in wrestling with her health, I do sympathize with her. We all get there eventually, if we are lucky, and sometimes still do, even if we are not.

Here is what Wikipedia (they are proud of her at Wikipedia) says about her:

"...Turner has worked with Planned Parenthood of America since age 19, and later became a chairperson. She also serves on the board of People for the American Way, and volunteers at Amnesty International and Citymeals-on-Wheels. She was one of John Kerry's first celebrity endorsers. She has been a frequent donor to the Democratic Party. She has also worked to raise awareness of rheumatoid arthritis..."

I will say...her evil character in "The Man With Two Brains" did make me laugh...

Her movie career as a leading lady practically ended right after V. I. Warshawski bombed at the box office. She got some more movies but nothing made money and by the end of the 90’s had put on serious weight.

I looked it up and she still made some movies but nothing as the star. I know we all age but her looks dept dropped off the earth in less than 10 years.

That saying was coined by Bette Davis...and worth taking note of.

Hell. Few are immune to the ravages of age, and in the end, it gets all of us.

One of her movies she was most famous for was a black comedy called "War Of The Roses", and when I watched it, I didn't enjoy it because as you get older, you realize that people do indeed do crazy things when relationships go on the rocks. I have found that enmity between people who once loved each other to be one of the saddest and most painful things in life to witness.

But there was one scene in that movie that still makes me grin-as they sleep in bed, Kathleen Turner's character gently spooning the snoring Michael Douglas character, you can see her looking at her loudly snoring spouse, and the look on her face seems far and distant, as if she were remembering a time when they didn't hate each other quite so much.

Then suddenly, in an abrupt movement, buries her middle and index finger into the snoring nostrils of her mate!

And who could forget: "Woof."

Unrecognizable, when I first saw the pic I said steroids. And apparently another Freeper confirmed.

Well thanks for Romancing the Stone. Love that movie.

I knew a guy once who swore he used cocaine with her and her use was unbelievable. “Let me show you how it’s done”.

I used to think she was one of the most beautiful actresses in Hollywood...

And I understand stepping out of the limelight, but when getting “over it” puts you 50lbs over weight and possibly diabetic…that might be a little too much relaxation in retirement.

“People need to keep the weight off. That step alone will improve your looks by a lot.”

Some of that, you can see in her face, is from taking a lot of steroids to fight her disease.

>> "Not really. She has been in ill health for a long time. When I saw a headline with her name in it, I figured she had passed. Disease is a horrible thing." <<

This is probably the first time I agree with you on anything.
Anyone who is relatively healthy and has no debilitating or disabling health issues, should thank the Lord above and count their lucky stars.
IIRC, she has a autoimmune disease which requires Steroids (most likely Prednisone).
From my personal health issues, I know what she's battling with, it can be pure hell.
She's in need of prayers.

I agree.
I'm in the fitness industry and her weight gain has nothing to do with stuffing her face and being fat..
I believe she is suffering from a autoimmune disease and if that is the case, she will have to take Steroids and that can and will result in horrible side effects.
For example,
Prednisone can cause several side effects, including moon face.
Moon face is a symptom of Cushing’s syndrome or a side effect of steroids like prednisone. It is the result of high hormone levels that cause fat to deposit at the sides of the face.
Other side effects of prednisone include weight gain, mood changes, anxiety, jitteriness, and insomnia
