Okinawan Shorin Ryu martial arts as I once studied at a dojo has a tradition of farmer and laborer tools such as the sai that became weapons with stylized training. Police and invading soldiers couldn’t tell which people were merely working and which had been ready to fight.
True of other Asian traditions. Nunchaku for thrashing rice.
Sai for lifting hay. Kama for lifting crops. Bo sticks for carrying buckets or loads. Tecco from a type of horseshoe.
And a tonfa which looks in police hands just like it did it old China when it was “an old man’s crutch” or a staff.
