The “sanctions” had very minimal effects on Russia's overall oil exports over the past few years other than causing the accounting to go underground making the true numbers nearly impossible to track. The biggest supposed difference is that both India and China are now taking a larger share of known energy exports from Russia. Our EU "partners" have been caught numerous times cheating so who knows the actual extent. But whoever is getting them... years of sanctions have had almost no effect on the actual amount of Russia's energy exports. Any meaningful progress lowering their exports would mean a large increase in worldwide energy prices.

The threats were apparently aimed at China and India.

In his conversation with the broadcaster, the US President expressed anger over the Kremlin leader’s calls to impose temporary external governance in Ukraine.

Trump threatened to introduce new tariffs on Russian oil. However, he also said that if Putin does “the right thing”, his anger could subside.

In this context, Trump revealed his plans to speak with Putin again this week.

BACKGROUND:

• Trump and Putin previously spoke on 18 March. European Pravda covered the outcome of those talks in detail in an article titled Trump loses round one: behind the US-Russia talks and the changes they bring for Ukraine.

• Following their conversation, several rounds of negotiations took place between 23-25 March, during which the US, Russia and Ukraine agreed to a ban on strikes against energy infrastructure. However, this agreement has not been upheld in practice, as Russia continues to attack Ukraine’s energy facilities.

• President Zelenskyy has stated that Ukraine will prepare evidence of Russia violating the energy ceasefire and submit it to the United States, expecting a proper response.

U.S. President Donald Trump has warned that Russia cannot delay ceasefire talks in Ukraine indefinitely, stating that Moscow now faces a “psychological deadline” to reach an agreement.

“It’s a psychological deadline. If I think they’re dragging their feet, I’m not going to be happy about it,” Trump told reporters from The Hill aboard Air Force One.

Despite his warning, Trump expressed confidence that Russian President Vladimir Putin still “wants to make a deal” on Ukraine.

However, Trump also voiced disappointment over Putin’s recent remarks discrediting Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, stating that both leaders need to work together to end the war.

Just a day earlier, Trump said he was “very angry” and “furious” after Putin proposed the introduction of external governance in Ukraine to facilitate presidential elections.

Even so, Trump reminded reporters that he has a “very good relationship” with Putin, and that “anger quickly dissipates” when the Russian leader “does the right thing.”
